20x25x4 DS Pleat Furnace Filter has actual dimensions of 19 1/2" x 24 1/2" x 3 3/4". It has a MERV Rating of 8. This furnace and air conditioner air filter is designed for domestic use and is ideal to help remove dust, pollen, mold spores, pet dander and other household fibers. Replacing your furnace filter periodically is not only a great way to breath better quality air, but also is a great way to maintain the heating and ventilation system (HVAC) of your household.

It is recommended that you replace the furnace filter in your household every 30-90 days.
There are many different sizes for furnace filters and you have to use the exact size you would need for your furnace.
Once you have the correct sized filter follow the following steps for a smooth installation:
- Turn off the furnace fan.
- Prepare the new filter for installation. (its plastic wrapping, labels attached, etc.)
- Check for the arrow marks on the side of the filter. The pointing direction of the arrow marks indicates the side of the filter that faces the furnace.
- Insert the filter making sure the arrow marks are pointing towards the furnace fan.
Minimum Effeciency Reporting Value (MERV) ratings are used to rate the ability of an air cleaner filter to remove dust from the air as it passes through the filter. MERV is a standard used to measure the overall efficiency of a filter. The MERV scale ranges from 1 to 16, and measures a filter’s ability to remove particles from .30 to 10 microns in size. To give you an idea of the scale of a micron, 100 microns is about the thickness of a human hair. Filters with higher ratings not only remove more particles from the air, they also remove smaller particles. MERV ratings are determined by adding particles of varying sizes into a controlled testing environment. The particles are added upstream of the test filter and a laser particle counter samples the air before it enters the filter and after it leaves the filter. The two particle counts are compared to calculate the Particle Size Efficiency of the tested filter. Once this is determined, a MERV Parameters chart is used to determine the MERV rating.
